For anyone who loves making their own beats or just creating funky sounds using existing files, Audacity is an excellent choice.

Audacity is a free, user friendly audio recorder and editor that has multilingual capabilities. Users can edit WAV, MP3, AIFF or Ogg Vorbis files.

This program can also be used for a number of other processes including the conversion of records or tapes into CDs or digital recordings, copying, cutting, splicing or mixing sounds together, adjusting the pitch or speed of a recording to name only a few.

Audacity records live audio and then allows users to remix or re-master their recordings, offering artists a wide array of options and enhanced features.

There have been previous versions of Audacity but the latest offers much more in the way of improvements. Noise removal, equalization and vocal remover are just a few of the new enhancements in Audacity 2.0.

Some of the most significant changes are related to ease of access, automatic crash recovery,a brand new tool bar and improved label tracks.

Additionally, the long awaited support of the VAMP analysis plug-in is available with the newest version of Audacity.

New keyboard short cuts have been added, making the program even easier to navigate. This is ideal for beginners and people who have not had a lot of experience with the previous versions.
