Songbird

Songbird is an open source web player and media browser all in one. It is comprised of SQLite, VLC Media Player and Firefox. It supports user backed, cross platform extensions that you can play, manage and use to discover new music.

Due to a number of plug ins, Songbird is extremely customizable, free and can be updated and enhanced via plug-ins by the direct contribution of the user community.

It has been described as what would be the perfect love child of VLC and Firefox were they ever to get together and procreate. While this may sound funny to some, it couldn’t be a more accurate of a depiction of this software.

The first thing most users notice is the remarkable resemblance it bears to the iTunes interface. This makes Songbird quite simple to use for anyone who has ever used iTunes.

Songbird allows you to import your own music files from a folder you select, watches that folder for changes such as new editions and then organizes the songs in an easy to navigate and highly functional catalogue.

In addition, Songbird is totally compatible with Last.fm, iTunes and Scrobbling to name a few. Additionally, Songbird has an innovative equalizer that allows you to enhance your listening experience by changing and adjusting playback settings. A web interface allows you to locate music files and download them from all of your favorite music sites.
