uTorrent is a free closed source BitTorrent client. It was coded some years ago by Ludvig Strigeus with the primary intention of designing a small, user friendly alternative to older clients, also known as “bloatware.”

The older programs were much more resource intensive, causing lag and a number of other problems for users. Today uTorrent is the world’s most popular BitTorrent client, owned by BitTorrent Incorporated, a Bram Cohen company.

uTorrent is a compact program that uses a minute amount of CPU resources, hard drive space and memory. By far the most valued feature is the ability to download multiple files simultaneously.

In addition, uTorrent automatically adjusts bandwidth making downloads much faster and resuming a paused download much easier.

Because uTorrent is a peer to peer (P2P) program, meaning users are uploading and downloading files to and from each other, RSS feed and seeding capabilities are enhanced.

Users rely on uTorrent to download a number of different file types, including video, audio and even software programs. Because uTorrent is a BitTorrent client it uses BitTorrent language, much like a web browser uses HTTP.

In order to use uTorrent you will need to go to a site that offers torrent files such as thepiratebay.org, legaltorrents.com or others similar.

These sites are often referred to as torrent index sites as they simply work as a middle man for users and do not actually create the torrents themselves.

Installing and using uTorrent is simple as once it has been placed on your computer,  provided you follow the set up instructions, any torrent file you attempt to download will automatically open and download using  uTorrent.
